Potres magnitude 6,8 je pogodio obalu Japanu, a epicentar se nalazi oko 129 kilometara od grada Namie u pokrajini Fukushima.

Upozorenje na opasnost od tsunamija je izdano za prefekture Fukushima, Iwate i Miyagi. Izdano je i upozorenje za pomorce.

Stanovnici pogođenog područja su upozoreni da se udalje od obale mora.
